We are thrilled to announce that this morning the QUASR journal club host a distinguished guest, Dr. Joaquin Sanchez-Sotelo, Chairman of the Division of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, via Zoom.
Dr. Sanchez-Sotelo is a renowned Consultant and Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, known for his outstanding contributions to the field. He currently serves as Division Chair of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, as well as Chairman of the Orthopedic Research Review Committee and Liaison for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery with Mayo Clinic Media Relationships.
His impressive list of accolades includes multiple awards such as the Mayo Clinic Teacher of the Year Award (twice!), Mark B. Coventry, Melvin Post, MidAmerica Orthopaedic Association, Knee Society, ISOLS 2019, ICSES 2019, AAOS Achievement Awards, Course Director for Best Mayo Clinic Course (2017 and 2021), and Digital Educator of the Year at Mayo Clinic 2021.
Dr. Sanchez-Sotelo's journey from Madrid, Spain, to becoming a leading expert in the field is inspiring. He has published over 300 articles and authored more than 50 book chapters. He is co-editor of the widely acclaimed textbook "The Elbow and Its Disorders" and has contributed to "Mayo Clinic Principles of Shoulder Surgery."
His work extends beyond the written word as he actively participates in the design of implants for joint replacement, shoulder #sportsmedicine, and #fracture fixation. Dr. Sanchez-Sotelo is not only a prolific researcher but also a dedicated educator, serving as course co-director for several prestigious #medical courses.
We were are honoured to have Dr. Sanchez-Sotelo share his expertise on the management of humeral bone loss in revision shoulder arthroplasty. He has generously provided reading material, including text for two book chapters currently under publication, and a selection of original publications.
